One of the world’s most posh resort chains, with locations in the United Arab Emirates and China, is developing its first U.S. property next to Disney’s Aulani resort.

When an affiliate of California’s Kam Sang Co. bought more than 43 acres of land at Ko Olina in January, part of the deal was to see through plans to develop an Atlantis resort, originally announced for the area back in 2016 by the land’s previous owner, China Oceanwide Holdings Group, which recently underwent liquidation. Atlantis resorts are known for extreme luxury and lavish amenities, such as the world’s largest water park, underwater rooms and 24-karat gold facials. Atlantis’ The Royal in Dubai (pictured above), No. 9 among the World’s 50 Best Hotels, has more than 90 pools.

The resort is expected to take five years and $2 billion to build and generate hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue for Hawai‘i. A second hotel will also be built in the area fronting the lagoons.
