All the Food Coming to the Cinco de Mayo Celebration at Fisherman’s Wharf
The largest gathering of Latin food is serving up all kinds of arepas, ceviches, elote, empanadas and more on Sunday, May 5.
Amid a rising tide of Latin food around Honolulu comes very good news: A Cinco de Mayo Celebration of Diversity is taking over Fisherman’s Wharf on May 5—and as its name promises, it’s bringing to one place all kinds of comida deliciosa.
It’s not just tacos. Venezuelan and Colombian arepas. Many tamales. Elote. Mexican and Peruvian ceviches. Empanadas and pastelillos. Yuca con mojo, lomo saltado, alcapurrias. Drinks, desserts, even Navajo fry bread desserts.
The Cinco de Mayo Celebration is about all Hispanic cultures in Hawai‘i and “the spirit of unity and collaboration among all cultures,” its press release says. It’s also the biggest pan-Latin food gathering we know of with 14 vendors, including restaurants like Da Seafood Cartel, Straight Outta Husk and Taqueria La Marea and food trucks at the free event. Plus, there’ll be a beer garden by Taqueria El Ranchero and mariachi bands, dancers and drummers from the O‘ahu Intertribal Council, hula performances and a keiki zone, face painting and craft booths.
The free event is sponsored by the Hawai‘i Tourism Authority and proceeds will benefit the nonprofit Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Hawai‘i. Scroll on for all the food menus.
