Celebrate Slimy Beans During O‘ahu’s July 12–14 Natto Takeout Dine-Around

Natto lovers can-natto resist: 12 eateries are featuring 28 new natto creations this weekend.

This week’s Natto Day Dinner is sold out, but natto to worry: 11 eateries are putting their best slime forward this weekend with 27 new natto creations from Mililani to Kāhala. Some are nods to favorite comfort foods, like first-time participant Clubhouse Mililani’s natto fried rice loco moco, below, with natto demi glace, no less. Same with Mio Pastalogy’s natto eggplant bolognese and Kapa Hale of Kāhala’s crispy lechon with cheesy natto sauce.

Also new to the lineup this year is Sachi’s Sweets of Mō‘ili‘ili, debuting with a complete natto-to-be-missed teishoku. And don’t even think we forgot about dessert: Mio Pastalogy in McCully is making a natto ice cream, while in Kalihi, Made by Aliyoko will have natto-misu and natto okoshi snacks.

True aficionados will know that Natto Day is officially Wednesday, July 10. Tickets for that dinner at Nami Kaze were gone within 36 hours, so this is our way of celebrating the maligned bean with as many fans as possible. Shoutout as always to my Natto Takeout Dine-Around co-organizers, Greg Sekiya and Scott Pang. Now scroll on for a look at the unctuous delicacies that await, and get your chopsticks ready for a memorable three days of natto.
