We Tried It: Love Me Knots’ Piercing Party
Get pierced by a professional piercer and shop for jewelry at the label’s lovely Kaimukī showroom.
If you’re up on your jewelry trends, then you know that earrings stacks currently reign supreme. And as the trend has grown in popularity, so have piercing parties, which took off on the mainland and are now finding fans in Honolulu.
Held in boutiques or jewelry showrooms, the by-appointment events offer access to a professional piercer in a chic setting. “We’re hoping to fill the gap that exists between what you experience at Claire’s and serious piercing shops,” says Sophia Vuong Pai, co-owner of Love Me Knots.

At the brand’s airy Kaimukī showroom, clients can book individual time slots or group sessions with friends. Both garner you a private appointment to shop and get pierced by the brand’s licensed in-house piercer. There are comfy lounge chairs to relax on and light refreshments to enjoy. Reserving a spot requires a $30 deposit, which you’ll be able to apply to your purchase.
As we browse the showroom’s earring selection, which ranges from sleek huggies and pearl hoops to double-piercing styles draped with chain, Vuong Pai steers us toward a particular display. “We only pierce with fine 14K gold stud earrings with flat backings,” she explains. There are a lot to choose from, featuring delicate crystals, opals, Tahitian pearls, diamonds and more. If you prefer something simpler, there are also strictly gold crescents, stars and flowers.

Piercing is done using a hollow needle, which Tracey, our piercer, informs us is more precise and sanitary than when done with a gun and heals quicker. Along with lobes, Love Me Knots also offers flat, helix, rook and tragus piercings.
Christine Labrador, HONOLULU Magazine’s art director, and I both opt for the same evil eye crystal earring. I do mine as a secondary lobe piercing, and she nestles hers in the inner conch area. We take turns on the pink lounger, find the perfect piercing spots and within a few minutes, we’re jeweled up.
It was such a fun experience—stress-free and all good vibes. I can’t wait for this one to heal so I can come back and start a stack on the other side.
