PBS Hawai‘i Presents Nā Mele: Mākaha Sons at House Without A Key
Tune in for a special performance by Nā Hōkū Hanohano award-winning Hawaiian musical group the Mākaha Sons on Monday, June 5.

Last year, PBS Hawai‘i’s Nā Mele brought its viewers to Halekulani’s iconic House Without A Key, a first for the show. That episode showcased the soulful sound of Josh Tatofi—the uninterrupted version of the episode is available through PBS Passport. The long-running musical program makes its return this month to the shores of Waikīkī, this time featuring the signature harmonies of the Mākaha Sons.
The legendary group has perpetuated Hawaiian music in their own distinct way across four decades and dozens of albums while collecting numerous awards along the way, including Nā Hōkū Hanohano awards and an induction into the Hawaiian Music Hall of Fame. While earning the HARA Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010, the band’s legacy continues on thirteen years later, fronted by founding member Jerome Koko on 12-string guitar and joined by Kimo Artis on electric bass and Hanale Ka‘anapu on 6-string guitar.
The performance, recorded in March of this year, is presented as part of PBS Hawai‘i’s pledge program, broadcasting live from the Harry and Jeannette Weinberg Multimedia Studio on Monday, June 5.
