PBS Hawai‘i Celebrates 25 Years of Nā Mele

Nā Mele reaches a quarter-century milestone of promoting musical excellence, cultural exploration and artistic legacies.

 

Nā Mele, the iconic PBS Hawai‘i music program that has been a beacon of Hawai‘i’s authentic and diverse musical heritage, proudly announces its 25th anniversary celebration. This significant milestone marks a quarter-century of dedication, passion and artistic excellence in showcasing the beauty and magic of Hawai‘i’s musical traditions.

 

Since its inception, Nā Mele has played a pivotal role in preserving and promoting Hawai‘i’s rich musical heritage. The program has become a platform for artists, emerging and seasoned, to share their talents, stories and the cultural significance of their music. Over the past 25 years, Nā Mele has captivated audiences, both local and global, with its commitment to authenticity and artistic exploration.

To commemorate this momentous occasion, PBS Hawai‘i is inviting the community to join in a special tribute throughout the year. On Monday, Jan. 29, at 7:30 p.m., we will showcase a brand-new Nā Mele featuring Kamakakēhau Fernandez, a Hawaiian music singer who was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, and adopted by a Maui family when he was an infant. He grew up immersed in the Hawaiian culture and is fluent in ‘Ōlelo Hawai‘i.
