Rise to the challenge of a new tomorrow: That’s the theme for this year’s Filipino Food Week, which starts today and runs through Sunday, June 26. Restaurants on O‘ahu, Maui, Kaua‘i and Hawai‘i Island are celebrating with special dishes. While eateries like Elena’s Restaurant and Maui’s Macadangdang are known for their Filipino fare, others including Pai Honolulu, Roy’s and Tiki’s Grill & Bar are not, making for an exciting Filipino Food Week.

This year’s theme is the Philippine Consulate’s nod to the challenges of the ongoing pandemic. It continues a tradition of new starts for the country in June, including independence from Spain (June 12). And it’s fitting that the theme ingredient of Filipino Food Week, which participating restaurants are featuring in their dishes, is the bright, tart calamansi.
